September has usually been pretty great to me, I say this as a person that missed the last seven due to working a job that required a majority of my time. I left that job in May and my life has only gotten better.

Oh September, I had forgotten how blissful you can be! Last weekend was Indy Jazz Fest and crossing paths with a dear friend, the previous weekend was Indy Irish Fest and seeing that exact same person. And before that horseback riding in southern Indiana with another close friend.

The new job has been great, I continue to see my friends and experience life, and I've been highly creative as well. October is coming soon, I remember I rather enjoy that month as well.

Indy Irish Fest 2014

Last evening I attended my very first Indy Irish Fest! A wonderful evening of music, food, and beverage was enjoyed as I walked the grounds of Military Park taking in the event. As I was about to leave I was fortunate to cross paths with one of my dearest friends! Irish luck right? We met an older gentleman from Dublin and had a great conversation as I enjoyed hearing him and her speak of Ireland. She has been fortunate enough to live there and I hung onto their every word. Perfect company and perfect weather made this yes, a perfect evening. Looking forward to next year!

I’m writing for the first time in months, which feels pretty good. Currently picking up the pieces of the book about the clock and the compass. It’s been months since I’ve altered or even read it that I needed to start from page one and go from there. Just 9 chapters to edit and then I’m off to new material!

Paintball tour of duty.

Well I played paintball yesterday which was a really great and interesting experience. When this was all planned about two weeks earlier I decided that I for one was going to wear a helmet. Those of you that know me realize that I sometimes like to do things with a bit more style sometimes, thus began the quest for a real WW2 M1 or M2 GI helmet. Ebay presented me with some sticker shock and moral dilemmas.

I found a helmet on Ebay that with a great price but the buyer had noted in the auction that this helmet was worn by a soldier that had died in combat. Obviously I wasn’t going that route. For those of you that know my respect for veterans, especially WW2 vets runs VERY deep. So on to option two, the good ol’ Army/Navy store.

I went to one that I hadn’t been to in about 14 years, when I worked at UPS I always bought my combat boots at this location. They always seemed to work well in that environment. Long blog entry short I walked out with a great helmet and knee pads (another great idea that paid off big time). Once home the ‘look’ was just starting.

I found some press on letters and from there I emblazoned the side of the helmet with ‘AV Company’, an homage to EZ Co. from Band of Brothers and I was playing with my friends from the AV Department at work. Next came the rubber band around the helmet and the pack of cigarettes, I DO NOT smoke, but wanted that extra added touch of detail. I was close to tucking a condom into the other side of the helmet band, but the red flag in my mind went up and said ‘Whoa!, stick with what you have.’ Sometimes overkill is totally ignored by society and I don’t want to be in that crowd.

So today I am one sore guy and getting ready for a very light day at work with my fellow members of AV Company. Looking forward to doing this again!

Moon book grounded.... for now.

Well the moon book is officially on hold for now but I do have another project underway. Thus far I’m on chapter four and did my first interview for a book, that being said I decided that the original story line was much too dark and I really didn’t need that sort of heavy theme at this point in my life. There was simply no room for humor and I didn’t want to end up writing another version of ‘Leaving Las Vegas’. Airplane Lady was fairly heavy in theme and perhaps a little light in humor, so my goal for the moon book was all a great story and a great laugh. But my heart wasn’t there then I couldn’t push the story along, it’s currently residing in the ‘next’ file.

So now I’m into Chapter 4 of what I’m calling ‘A Clockbook Orange.’ It’s just a working title so please don’t sue me. Like most writers getting into a book this story seems to be about being lost in a midlife crisis. The outline feels strong and I even have the ending mapped out which is rare since I’m always beaten by the winds of indecision when creating a book. This time the ending seems very clear, I just need to get it there. I’ll keep you posted!
